Responsive Digital Signage
Challenge
Traditional digital signage often contributes to visual noise, low engagement, and unnecessary energy use. The challenge was to imagine a signage system that feels architecturally integrated and visually compelling when idle, while becoming genuinely useful only when a viewer is present.
Solution
Dual-Mode Display System
- Designed a two-state system that alternates between a passive Art Mode and an active Information Mode based on user presence.
Ambient Generative Art
- In passive mode, displays present original generative artworks created with TouchDesigner and GLSL, intended to complement the surrounding architecture rather than compete for attention.
Proximity-Driven Interaction
- Motion or proximity sensors trigger a seamless transition to Information Mode, presenting maps, wayfinding, schedules, or other contextual content when a viewer approaches.
Context-Aware Design
- The concept builds on interaction patterns developed for the Generative Impressionism installation, applying similar ideas of spatial awareness and responsiveness to public information systems.
System Visualization
- Explored the concept across multiple architectural contexts using Vectorworks, emphasizing modularity, placement, and environmental integration.
