Generative Art Gallery
Challenge
Transform static pointillist paintings into responsive, impressionistic visuals that react to viewer presence and movement. The installation needed to operate reliably on a multi-panel video wall, provide immediate, low-latency feedback to motion, and accurately resolve a viewer’s position relative to individual display panels.
Solution
Multi-pass GLSL Pipeline
- Pass 1: Generate a dynamic 2D vector field (flow map) using fluid-inspired measures such as curl and divergence.
- Pass 2: Advect the source image along the evolving vector field to produce “brushstrokes.”
- Final passes handle color grading and parameter modulation.
Interaction
- A Kinect sensor tracks viewer position and movement; interactive zones across the wall activate localized generative effects as viewers approach, creating a direct spatial relationship between the viewer and each artwork.
